Gliding cats

Have you heard about how cats always land on their feet? Well now you know.
So you would of course say that they can survive a fall 5 meters. Correct. But if they fell from 500 meters, they will certainly die. That's what you would assume in your non-bath salt mind, right? Well... they will survive a large fall because they have enough time to react and reach their legs out to form a sort of glide. Sure they might receive minor injuries, but not die.
However, if they fell from about the top of a 6 story building, they don't glide and will probably die. You see, from a small height they flip to their legs rather than gliding. From a medium height they will still flip, but the flip won't sustain the fall damage.
